چکیده

Scleroderma-like cutaneous lesions have been found in many pathological conditions and they the clinical appearance of sclerotic or scleroatrophic lesions. Affected skin biopsies described histopathological changes similar to those scleroderma located strictly on systemic sclerosis. These can be inflammatory diseases with autoimmune substrate (generalized morphea, chronic graft versus host disease, eosinophilic fasciitis), tissue storage (scleredema, scleromyxedema, nephrogenyc fibrosis, amyloidosis), metabolic (porphyrya cutanea tarda, phenylketonuria, hypothyroidism, scleredema diabeticorum), progeroid syndromes. Given multiple etiologies sclerodermal lesions, a correct differential diagnosis is necessary establish appropriate treatment.

Immunologic and nonimmunologic generation of superoxide from mast cells and basophils.

Mediator release from rat peritoneal and human lung mast cells as well as human leukemic basophils was examined to determine whether super-oxide (O(-) (2)) was concomitantly generated. Immunologic or nonimmunologic stimulation of each preparation induced parallel release of histamine and O(-) (2) within 2 min. O(-) (2) production was quantitated by superoxide dismutase (SOD)-inhibitable chemilu...

Nonimmunologic targets of immunosuppressive agents in podocytes

Proteinuria is a characteristic finding in glomerular diseases and is closely associated with renal outcomes. In addition, therapeutic interventions that reduce proteinuria improve renal prognosis. Accumulating evidence has demonstrated that podocytes act as key modulators of glomerular injury and proteinuria. The podocyte, or glomerular visceral epithelial cell, is a highly specialized and dif...

Mechanisms of bronchoconstriction from nonimmunologic environmental stimuli.

Athma is characterized by repeated episodes of bronchoconstriction, often triggered by environmental stimuli. Since much of the therapy of asthma is aimed at preventing these episodes of bronchoconstriction, understanding the mechanisms by which environmental stimuli cause bronchoconstriction has obvious clinical importance. This review will discuss the general mechanisms by which inhaled agent...
